Resources for Communities

Our town governments are responsible for the maintenance of town roads and public parks and gardens. Some towns have rules for privately owned yards as well. The Westchester county government has a set of ‘guidelines’ for Westchester municipalities. These guidelines discourage use of pesticides and encourages the use of native plants. The interest in pollinator friendly management is growing. Many of our town leaders are aware of the climate crisis, and have to deal with heavier rainfall, higher temperatures and longer periods of drought. Pollinator friendly practices can mitigate some of the climate related issues, and save money as well.

We are encouraging everyone to connect with their town boards to discuss mowing practices, leaf blower usage and the maintenance of the public gardens.

For questions and to obtain information about connecting with your town board, just send us an email info@healthyyards.org
